Triton Track & Field Stadium is the former training camp location of the San Diego Chargers. This history means there are oversized locker rooms and meeting space within the stadium. Since the days of the Chargers however, the stadium has undergone some serious improvements. Such improvements include a brand new track surface, a tiered seating lawn on the south end of the stadium which creates a great location for participants to “camp” in between events. A new Daktronics video board has also been installed which generates additional revenue potential for event sponsor activations, broadcast capabilities and more. Unique to UCSD, there is also a cross country course that takes runners through a scenic Eucalyptus Forest. One of the most significant improvements to the Triton Track and Field Stadium is the creation of the new Spanos Athletic Performance Center. This is a state- of- the- art team training facility. As UCSD enters the Big West Conference to participate in Division I college athletics, this weight room will already be the envy of the conference. Besides traditional track and cross country meets, this venue is a great space for 5k road races, youth soccer, ultimate frisbee competition and more. In fact, we once event set up a hackathon on the track infield under a 10,000 square foot tent- anything is possible when you have a great canvas to work with.
